Top Salesman within two weeks of employment!

The challenge

MP was finding it difficult to gain employment after an offence and personal battles with depression. Naturally, this caused some feelings of anxiety and frustration. He was very motivated to seek employment but was struggling to put the process of reaching this goal into practice. He had a very dated CV & covering letter with no disclosure letter to help support his journey back into paid employment. It was evident that MP was experienced and articulate in the field he wished to work in once more and had a wealth of experience from previous job roles that would be beneficial to an employer.

What we did

MP joined our 1-2-1 coaching, post-release programme and he was fully engaged from the outset. His first session identified the clear goals he wanted to achieve. He had previously worked hard on his acceptance of his offences and he had put strategies in place to improve and develop positively his state of mind and his mental health. He started the programme in a good place and felt that mentally he was ready to start his journey back into employment. During his session, we updated his CV and covering letter and sent it out to a range of recruitment agencies.

We spent time conducting multiple mock interviews in preparation for the real thing. This gave MP the confidence and the knowledge to refine his answers making them clear, concise, to the point and in specific relation to the question, whilst relating his answers to the job description. MP was extremely proactive during the programme; he invested hours in job searches, application forms and practising interview skills.

The outcome

MP was successful in obtaining two job offers around the same time within the industry he wished to work. One was a commission only role and the other a full-time permanent contract with a basic salary of £20k and uncapped commission. Needless to say, he chose the latter job offer! Now in full-time employment, MP keeps in touch on a weekly basis. He is always appreciative of the support and guidance provided through Motiv-8. He is thoroughly enjoying having A regular structure and earning money through selling; something that is evident he has a real skill at doing. After just two weeks in the job, MP won an award for top salesman consisting of a limited-edition bottle of Jack Daniels, £10 Amazon gift card and a hardback sales book. Furthermore, in Spring 2021 he achieved the accolade of the overall top seller within the company of 100 employees with 9 individual sales.
